Amity Alliance
Iraqi-American peace, one friendship at a time
Mission Statement
The Amity Alliance seeks to enhance understanding and foster tolerance between Iraq and the United States of America by connecting students of each nation in a one-on-one partnership.
Description
The Amity Alliance operates under the assumption that international friendship can provide an appreciation for foreign cultures as well as empathy for one another’s struggles. We hope that the individuals involved in the matches do not only learn from their partners, but develop a desire for advocating cooperation between their nations. When students are accepted to the program, they are provided with their partners’ contact information so that they can be pen pals. Partners also have the opportunity to collaborate on mini efforts towards establishing peace between Iraq and the United States.
Mission and Goals
Why the Amity Alliance?
Since America’s invasion of Iraq in 2003, relations between the nations have been strained. Many {FIND OUT THE NUMBER} have been killed and have been uprooted from their homes in Iraq. The US continues to occupy Iraq, despite protests by many of its citizens. The goal of the Amity Alliance is to establish a more peaceful relationship between the two countries by focusing on a person-to-person diplomatic approach. By developing partnerships between members of each country and working on collaborative tasks together, such a goal can be achieved.
